Benefit for heart attack victim Saturday

Two heart attacks and a triple bypass surgery have left rural Marshalltown resident Todd Karr homebound.

His friends are looking to brighten his spirits by raising money for the family to remodel his home to add a new bathroom. This bathroom would allow for Karr to not have to travel up stairs in his condition, said family friend Mia Hardman.

Hardman is the organizer of a fundraising benefit, which will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Old Timer Tavern, 401 S. Center St. in Marshalltown.

It will feature a pulled pork lunch for a free will donation and a raffle. The raffle will feature gold jewelry, gift certificates and several other items.

“We have an enormous amount of things to raffle off,” Hardman said.

Karr is the owner of a local trucking company and the Marshalltown Redemption Center.

Hardman said Karr is a “pillar of the community,” who often lends his time for children to enjoy fishing at his ponds. He also takes time to let seniors and veterans have fishing time as well.

“In the community, he is always the first one to lend a helping hand,” Hardman said. “He is very involved in the community.”

Hardman said they hope to raise $2,000 to help with the home remodeling for the Karrs.
