Fennelly inks five more; Bluder adds four
AMES – Iowa State women’s head basketball coach Bill Fennelly announced Wednesday that five prep standouts have signed their letters of intent to play for the Cyclones starting in 2014-15.
Kiel Moore, a national recruiting analyst for ProspectsNation, called the class one of the top-25 in the nation.
Emily Durr, a 5-foot-10 guard from Utica, N.Y., is a three-year letterwinner at Notre Dame high School. She averaged 24.3 points and eight rebounds in her junior season and is listed as a four-star, top-100 prospect by ESPN.com. She is Fennelly’s first recruit from New York.
Nakiah Bell, a 5-5 guard form Saint Louis, Mo., is a three-time all-conference selection out of Incarnate Word Academy.
Blaire Thomas, a 5-11 guard out of Waterloo, is a two-time all-conference team selection at Waterloo West. The multi-sport standout was named first-team all-state her junior year and is listed as a three-star prospect by ESPN.com.
Bryanna Fernstrom, a 6-5 center out of Fridley, Minn., is a two-time all-conference selection at Chisago Lakes High School. Fernstrom averaged 20 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks last season.
Claire Ricketts, a 6-3 forward from Grand Prairie, Tex., is a two-time first-team all-state selection from John Paul II High School in Plano, Tex.
Hawkeyes sign quartet
IOWA CITY – Iowa women’s head basketball coach Lisa Bluder announced the signing of four players to their National Letter of Intent.
Iowa’s class is ranked No. 28th nationally by Blue Star Basketball.
Christina Buttenham, a 6-0 forward from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, won gold at the Canada Games as a member of the U17 Team Ontario squad and was selected to the all-star team at the 2013 USJN/Nike 17U National Championships.
Chase Coley, a 6-3 forward from Washburn High School in Minneapolis, Minn., averaged 20 points, 17.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 4.9 steals and 8.8 blocks per game last season.
Whitney Jennings, a 5-foot-5 guard from Logansport High School in Logansport, Ind., became the schools all-time leading scorer last season with 1,778 career points.
Carly Mohns is a 6-1 forward from Brodhead High School in Brodhead, Wis., is a three-time first-team all-conference player and led her team to three straight conference titles. She compiled 368 points, 266 rebounds, 42 assists and 85 steals last year.
