Former Bobcat extends baseball career
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Former Marshalltown High School baseball standout Alex Thompson signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to continue his collegiate baseball career with the University of Illinois Springfield, an NCAA Division II program.
Thompson, now a sophomore outfielder at Kirkwood Community College, was an all-CIML Iowa Conference second team selection as a senior at MHS and a two-time All-Area selection by the Times-Republican.
“Alex … is really starting to come into his own offensively,” said UIS coach Chris Ramirez. “We expect that with continued progression he will be a major contributor for us in the outfield. He immediately makes our team more athletic, which is something we really wanted to accomplish with this (recruiting) class.”
