Bobcats split basketball jamboree at WDM Valley

WEST DES MOINES – Sophomore Tabby Steffensen scored 10 points in her first action at the varsity level Saturday as her 10 points led the Marshalltown girl’s basketball team to a 29-26 win over the Ankeny Hawks at the annual Central Iowa Metropolitan League Jamboree at West Des Moines Valley High School.

Aaron Hauser and Austin Kluver both had five points for the Bobcat boys, but their efforts came in a 36-24 loss to Ankeny.

Kali Banks finished with seven points, five rebounds and five steals for the girls. Sam Hughes also had six points and five boards, while Rachel Blagg added three points and three steals.

On the boys side, Mason McCarville and Dylan Diveney both had four points and Kluver pulled down five rebounds in the loss.

The Marshalltown girls open the regular season at Des Moines North at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. The Bobcats beat the Polar Bears last year for one of their four wins. North was winless last year and averaged just 14 points per game.

The Marshalltown boy’s team do not play its first regular season game until Dec. 3 when the Bobcats host Des Moines Hoover in a doubleheader at the Roundhouse.
