Iowa State’s Johnson tabbed as top newcomer
IRVING, Texas – Iowa State women’s basketball freshman Seanna Johnson was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week by the league Monday.
Johnson had two double-digit scoring efforts this week as Iowa State faced two opponents on the road. The Brooklyn Park, Minn. native also recorded her first double-double in the Cyclones’ win at Drake Sunday with career-highs in points (14) and rebounds (11).
Over the last two games Johnson shot 50 percent from the field, 60 percent from long range and 80 percent at the line. ISU was the only Big 12 team to win two road games this week.
This is Johnson’s first career weekly honor and the second for Iowa State this season, as senior Hallie Christofferson was named Player of the Week earlier this year.
No. 23 ISU returns to the court Friday at 9:30 p.m. to take on Eastern Washington in the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas.
