ITAC to present ‘A Celtic Christmas’ in Amana Saturday

The popular musical group from Cedar Rapids, “IrishJam,” returns to the ITAC stage at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

“A Celtic Christmas” is a musical celebration of Irish music with a light touch of narration written by Robert Assink, of Cedar Rapids. Reservations are strongly recommended for this holiday event presented at the Iowa Theatre Artists Company in Amana, with only two performances being offered over the Thanksgiving weekend on the ITAC stage.

This year’s IrishJam production emphasizes traditional Celtic music along with favorite Christmas tunes. Also included in the show, to help punctuate the festive music, are some Christmas memories of an Irish immigrant who has traveled to America and relates her feelings of the Ireland she remembers. This year’s guest narrator is Meg Merckens, of South Amana, Artistic Director of ITAC.

IrishJam formed about two years ago out of the ashes of the band, PattyMac. The group plays a mix of Irish, Scottish and English music, both traditional and modern. IrishJam includes Joe Byrd, of Cedar Rapids, on six and 12 string guitars and vocals, Deborah Byrd, of Cedar Rapids, on vocals, Carlis Faurot, of Cedar Rapids, on the electric violin and vocals, Laura Phillips, Cedar Rapids, on flute, piccolo and vocals, and Michael Crist on vintage drums including a 1908 Leedy snare drum in addition to the Irish bodrhan.

Tickets are $15. Group Rates are available and seating is reserved. Call the ITAC Box Office at 319-622-3222 for more information and reservations.
