AGWSR’s Ubben gains academic honor

ST. LOUIS – AGWSR graduate Macy Ubben was one of two Northern Iowa volleyball players named to the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team Monday by a vote of the league’s volleyball sports information directors.

Ubben and fellow senior Shelby Kintzel were two of 16 MVC players to earn the distinction, while eight more earned honorable mention. Kintzel has earned the award three times, while it’s the second for Ubben. The Panthers were the only unanimous selections and two of just five student-athletes to repeat as first team honorees.

Thirty-eight student-athletes were nominated for the MVC Scholar Athlete team. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches and reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Ubben, an Ackley native, has a 3.90 GPA in biology/biochemistry.
