MCC women notch fourth straight win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Mackenzie Gott and Jasmine Howe both scored 11 points in the first half and the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team trounced Lewis & Clark CC, 73-38, in Friday’s opening game of the MCC-Penn Valley Classic.

The Tigers (6-1) jumped out to a 37-14 halftime lead en route to their fourth straight win, leaving Lewis & Clark (1-6) with its sixth consecutive defeat. The Trailblazers’ 38 points was the fewest allowed by MCC this season.

Gott finished with a team-leading 15 points, while Howe and Courtney Williams-Perry came off the bench to contribute 13 and 10 points, respectively.

MCC’s defense played a critical role in the runaway win, collecting 16 steals on the night. Ashley Salgado secured four of them.

Danielle Montgomery chipped in eight points and a team-high nine rebounds, six of which were on the offensive glass, while Jamerka Martin also scored eight points. Howe and Kaleigh Sieck both posted four assists to lead the team.

The Tigers return to action today at noon, taking on host Penn Valley for the second time this season. MCC met the Scouts in the opener for both teams in Marshalltown on Nov. 2, winning 74-57.
