Another 35-point triumph for MCC women’s hoops
KANSAS CITY – The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team recorded its second 35-point victory in as many days at the MCC-Penn Valley Classic, beating the host Scouts 77-42 on Saturday.
Freshman Kaleigh Sieck (South Tama) tallied career highs of 21 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers, dropping three 3-pointers and all six of her free-throw attempts. Mackenzie Gott had her fifth double-double of the year, recording 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds as MCC improved to 7-1 with its fifth straight win.
MCC defeated Lewis & Clark CC 73-38 on Friday.
The Tigers marched out to a 49-19 halftime lead against the tournament hosts, who they defeated 74-57 in both teams’ season opener Nov. 2 in Marshalltown. MCC expanded the margin in this second meeting behind a 68-32 rebounding advantage that included 17 offensive boards for the Tigers.
Jamerka Martin made a pair of 3-pointers en route to eight points, while fellow starters Danielle Montgomery and Ashley Salgado both scored four points. Montgomery added nine rebounds and Salgado had six boards and six assists.
Off the bench, Ilsie Calles came up with nine points, Jasmin Howe had eight, Courtney Williams-Perry six and Rusty Henio four. Williams-Perry also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Tigers.
MCC-Penn Valley was led by Danielle Robertson’s 15 points, and Cieara Carter added 10.
Marshalltown is off until next weekend, when it travels to Trenton, Mo., for the North Central Missouri College Tournament. The Tigers take on Ancilla College at 7:30 p.m. Friday night and the host Pirates at 2 p.m. Saturday.
