Panther women pushed aside by Texas-Pan Am
SAN ANTONIO – The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team suffered its third straight loss, a 70-47 setback to Texas-Pan American in the final game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic late Saturday night.
The Panthers (2-5) never led, falling behind 18-2 through the first 7:12 of the game. Stephanie Davison scored UNI’s first seven points and led her team with 15 points and six rebounds in the loss.
Hannah Schonhardt added 10 points and five boards for the Panthers, who shot a paltry 27.1 percent from the field and 17.2 percent from 3-point range.
Brittany Bush had 17 points and 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season for the Lady Broncs (4-2), earning all-tournament team honors. KaeLynn Boyd also scored 17 points, while Tonisha Walker and Shawnt Goff both had 14.
UTPA put up 38 points in the paint to Northern Iowa’s 18 while outrebounding the Panthers 45-37.
UNI is off until Wednesday when it travels to Ames for an in-state showdown with nationally ranked Iowa State. The game tips off inside Hilton Coliseum at 7 p.m.
