SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat freshman girls drop to 0-2

The Marshalltown freshman girls’ basketball team saw its season record dip to 0-2 with Tuesday’s 45-5 loss to Des Moines Hoover at Lenihan Intermediate School.

Vanessa Vergara and Nya Gatwech both scored two points for the Bobcats and Vanesa Ceren added one point.

MHS hosts Des Moines Roosevelt tonight at Lenihan.

MHS sophomores fall to Hoover

Sam Rogers had eight points and Tony Smith added six points and seven rebounds but the Marshalltown boy’s sophomore basketball team lost to Des Moines Hoover 58-35 on Tuesday. Drake Slifer, Trevor Dolezal and Trevor Fuccio all had four points in the loss for the Bobcats.

MHS will next play Des Moines Roosevelt Friday at 4:45 p.m. at Lenihan.

Bobcat frosh come up with narrow win

Sam Brintnall’s double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds led the Marshalltown boy’s freshmen squad over Des Moines Hoover on Tuesday.

Austin Tullis also had 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Bobcats won 63-58.

Spencer Dempewolf had 14 points but seven of those came in the final 5 minutes as he locked up the win at the foul line. Dayton Slifer recorded nine points as well for the 1-1 Bobcats.

The season opener for the freshmen team was Monday as the Bobcats lost to Grinnell, 82-47.

Dempewolf led the way for the Bobcats with 11 points, while Brintall had nine points and seven rebounds, while Jacob Streeter had eight points.

The Bobcats next play at home against Des Moines Roosevelt at Lenihan on Friday.
