Dike-New Hartford scores sweep in Tama

TAMA – The Wolverines won the first eight matches and never looked back against South Tama County during a 56-24 win at a triangular dual at South Tama County High School on Thursday.

Dike-New Hartford then recorded six pins against GRNT-GC in its other dual and defeated the RebelHawks, 64-15.

Cesar Rivera (152), Bailey Chyma (160) and Trent Banes (170) all won by fall in three straight matches and the Trojans started off a string of four straight wins when Brandyn Jensen received a forfeit.

Dike-New Hartford scored seven falls in the match and also had a forfeit win and a technical fall victory.

GRNT-GC’s three wins against the Wolverines came from Parker Brown at 170, Tristan Johanningmeier at 145 and Tony Weber at 220. Brown and Weber both won by fall, while Johanningmeier beat Nick Durnin by an 8-4 decision.

Tommy Irvin, Alex Mooty, Levi Lynch and D.J. Ackerson went 2-0 with two pins for Dike-New Hartford. Zach Nichol received two forfeits, Kody Kuegel scored one win by fall and another by technical fall and Trent Johnson scored a win by fall and a win by major decision.

The RebelHawks will next wrestle in the Montezuma Tournament on Saturday, while South Tama heads to the Bondurant-Farrar Invitational.

Action in Montezuma begins at 10 a.m., while the Trojans will start in Bondurant at 8 a.m.
