Marshalltown attorney running for U.S. Congress
Marshalltown attorney Gail Boliver has announced his Republican candidacy for the U.S. Congress in the First District for 2014.
Boliver, 64, said the timing is right for him to run as he has grown children and more time. He spent 25 years in the military and said public service suits him.
“It’s time to serve again,” Boliver said.
Boliver said what sets him apart from other Republican candidates would be his focus on being a socially moderate, fiscal conservative. He brings a background in securities and bankruptcy practice.
“Which is very involved in the national debt,” Boliver said.
He has ideas to fix the economy and he said one would be to “attack entitlements.”
One thing he doesn’t feel the government should do is defund Obamacare.
“It’s passed and let’s get off it,” Boliver said. “It is too expensive and the wrong product but the demand is there.”
He feels the United States has continued down a path of less and less fiscal responsibility.
“I can see the U.S. turning into Greece if it doesn’t get ahold of itself,” Boliver said.
Boliver previously ran unsuccessfully for Congress is 2000. He said his campaign is just getting off the ground with stops in Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Dubuque recently.
This congressional seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa, who is running for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
