East Marshall/GMG goes 2-3 at Grinnell Tiger Duals
GRINNELL Running into some tough competition on the road, the East Marshall/GMG wrestling team was led by a pair of cross country harriers en route to a 2-3 mark at the Grinnell Tiger Duals Saturday.
Class 2A No. 8 ranked Nick Meling (106) and Drew Schossow (145) both won all five of their matches. Meling recorded a pair of pins, a decision and two wins by forfeit, while Schossow posted three pins, a major decision and a win by forfeit.
Grinnell claimed the meet title with a 5-0 mark, while Wilton finished second at 4-1 and Bondurant was third with a 3-2 record. ADM (1-4) and Mt. Pleasant (0-5) rounded out the field.
Max Upah (138) tallied a 4-1 mark with two wins by fall. Upah pinned Wilton’s Zach Keppy, ranked No. 7 in Class 1A, in 5 minutes, 12 seconds.
Zach Underhill, rated No. 10 at 126, finished 3-2 though both losses came against ranked foes.
Underhill lost a 6-0 decision to Class 1A No. 1 ranked Brady Ruden of Wilton, before being pinned in 1:37 against Class 2A No. 4 Caleb Coleman of Bondurant.
Other Mustangs with three-win outings included Steve Proffitt (120), Lane Walton (182), and Jaryd Young (195).
East Marshall/GMG (7-3) hosts Wapsie Valley and Union in Le Grand Thursday.
