Niang nets Big 12 honor after helping ISU top Iowa

AMES – Iowa State sophomore forward Georges Niang has been named the Big 12 Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 24 points in the Cyclones’ win over Iowa last Friday.

Niang notched his career high for a second straight game, going 8-of-15 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free-throw line. He provided the final margin with his reverse layup with 18 seconds left to lift Iowa State to the 85-82 victory.

He added five assists, two rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in the win over then-No. 23 Iowa. The No. 17 Cyclones resume play with the Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at Honolulu, opening with George Mason at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in a game televised by ESPNU.
