Embezzlement case headed to trial

The case of a Marshalltown woman, who was originally expected to plead guilty to embezzlement, could go to trial.

Abby Kjormoe, 31, who is alleged to have stolen from her former employer, Animal Clinic – The Vet, was slated to enter a guilty plea Monday to the State of Iowa in Marshall County.

According to her defense counsel in court records, there is an issue relating to the amount allegedly stole and the deposition of a prosecution witness is being arraigned. This information means the guilty plea was cancelled for Monday.

Kjormoe was charged in December 2012 with embezzling more than $14,000 from the clinic.. A veterinarian at the clinic contacted police after he suspected Kjormoe had been stealing from the clinic while being employed there. She turned herself into police last December.

The case is now placed on the trial calendar set to begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 28. Kjormoe was charged with ongoing criminal conduct, first-degree theft, tampering with records and unauthorized computer access.
