Tickets still available for Globetrotters game

World-class athletes and entertainers are less than two weeks away from descending on Marshalltown.

The Harlem Globetrotters basketball team will perform at 2 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Marshalltown High School Roundhouse.

Courtside seats are sold out for the game, but there are plenty of bleacher seats (general admission) available. General admission tickets are available for $25 at Sports Page Sporting Goods in the Marshall Town Center and online at

Todd Thimesch, owner of Sports Page, said tickets are going fast but there are still plenty available.

“People are excited,” Thimesch said. “We are seeing a lot of parents who saw the Globetrotters when they were a kid and are trying to pass on the legacy of good, wholesome fun. I think it’s going to be a great event for Marshalltown.”

One person who will be close to the action is Paul Gregoire, of Fisher Controls. Gregoire has been selected as a honorary opponent to represent the Not in Our Town anti-bullying group and will get to mix it up against the Globetrotters.

“It will be an honor to play with guys of this caliber,” Gregoire said. “It’s going to be great. I’ve watched these guys since I was a little kid. I’m going to do everything in my power to not be embarrassed.”

Gregoire said he’s looking forward to having the Globetrotters in the community.

“It out to be a blast,” Gregoire said.

Globetrotter player Brawley “Cheese” Chisholm made a stop in Marshalltown earlier this month to promote the game and visit schools. Chisholm said fans can expect a show with a little bit of everything at the Roundhouse.

“They can expect 88 years of rich history with wizardry, ball handling, flashy passing and high-flying dunks,” Chisholm said. “And, also the fact that we create memories.”
