Compensation board plans meeting Thursday

The Marshall County Compensation Board plans to meet Thursday to set salary recommendations for county elected officials.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. in meeting room 2 at the courthouse. It is open to the public.

The six-member board recommends raises for county officials including the treasurer, attorney, sheriff, auditor/recorder and board of supervisors. According to members of the board, they are expected to make the salary recommendation at this meeting for the fiscal year 2014-15, though there is a slight chance they may set a second meeting to set the recommendations. The supervisors will have the final say on whether the recommendations stick, but they have typically cut the raise recommendations.

Last year, the compensation board recommended raises from $6,000 to $13,000 for the county elected officials, which the supervisors slashed by 92 percent. The supervisors requested no raises for themselves last year.

The agenda also calls for the compensation board to select a chair, vice-chair and secretary at this meeting as well as discuss the duties of the compensation board.

The compensation board is made up of volunteers appointed by the elected officials and includes Gary McKibbin, Bill Patten, Tom McCoy, Doug Beals, Tyson Finders and Mark Braga.
