Cyclones’ Bluford leaves, McKay joins hoops team
AMES – K.J. Bluford is on the way out. Jameel McKay will soon be stepping in.
Iowa State men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg announced on Sunday that Bluford, a junior college transfer from Northeast Community College (Norfolk, Neb.), will transfer in hopes of getting more playing time elsewhere. Bluford played in just seven of the Cyclones’ 11 game, averaging 2.7 points in limited action.
He was passed up on the roster by freshmen guards Monte Morris and Sherron Dorsey-Walker, and will look for another opportunity outside of Ames.
McKay has transferred in from Marquette, where he quit the team before ever appearing in a game. The former Indian Hills CC standout and first-team NJCAA All-American averaged 16.8 points per game as a sophomore last winter.
McKay signed his admission acceptance letter on Monday, which will allow him to become eligible for 1 1/2 years starting Dec. 20, 2014, with the Cyclones.
