Bobcat bowlers split with visiting Lincoln
Tia Vergauwen’s 404 series propelled the Marshalltown girl’s bowling team to its first win of the season Thursday, while the Bobcat boys fell to Des Moines Lincoln at Totem Bowl.
Vergauwen’s season-best performance was assisted by a 200 game from Sam Tocheri as the MHS girls beat the Railsplitters, 2,411 to 2,399. Brandon Freese’s team-high 464 series came in a losing effort for the Bobcat boys though as Lincoln cruised to a 3,187-3,069 road victory.
“It was great for the girls to get that first win of the year, especially at home,” said MHS bowling coach Andy Schwandt. “Lincoln started catching us in the Bakers, but we were able to hold them off and secure an exciting win.”
Tocheri finished with a 338 series to take runner-up honors for the Bobcat girls. Jenna Vergauwen opened with a 179 and ended up with a 327 series.
Freese’s 464 series was matched in the boy’s contest by Lincoln’s Jamie Byers’ 501. Marshalltown’s Severio Mancieri tied for the high game overall with a 265 and ended up second on the team with his 425 series. Floyd Speck and Calvin Halverson each rolled 378 series for the Bobcats.
Both teams will head to Fort Dodge on Tuesday. Action is set to begin at 3:45 p.m.
