GIRLS HOOPS: West Marshall girls get past Spartans, 41-35
GRUNDY CENTER – Madie Streeter scored a game-high 13 points and West Marshall hit enough free throws down the stretch to steal a road game from Grundy Center on an icy Friday night in NICL West Division girls basketball.
The visiting Trojans traversed the treacherous roads and outscored Grundy Center 24-17 in the second half to overcome a one-point halftime deficit. Georgia Porter and Gabby Reyerson chipped in nine points apiece for West Marshall (5-8, 3-4), which ended a season-long three-game losing streak. Reyerson had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Grundy Center (5-5, 2-4) clung to an 18-17 halftime advantage and led throughout most of the third quarter until the end of it, when West Marshall moved in front. The Trojans never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.
Ally Jansen led the host Spartans with 11 points. Jessica Ackerson added nine points, Katie Lindeman had six points and eight rebounds, and Stephanie Faust chipped in five points. Grundy Center couldn’t overcome a rough shooting night from the floor (12-for-49) and at the free-throw line (8-for-16).
The Spartans head into a four-game week starting with Tuesday’s conference tilt at AGWSR. West Marshall entertains South Tama and South Hardin in next week’s league action.
