SPORT SHORTS: Steffensen returns, Bobcat JV still loses

WAUKEE – Marshalltown sophomore Tabby Steffensen returned from a shoulder injury Tuesday night and scored 13 points for the Bobcat girls’ junior varsity team.

But it still wasn’t enough on the road during Waukee’s 53-44 victory.

Rachel Whaley, Lexi Gimbel and Karli McClure all scored six points in the loss, while Molly Major, Kyra Hungerford and Carrie Schmidt all collected four points.

The junior varsity returns to action Friday when the Bobcats host Johnston at the Roundhouse.

MHS sophomore boys lose at Waukee

WAUKEE – Marshalltown’s sophomore boys’ basketball team was defeated 59-41 by Waukee on Tuesday.

Leading the Bobcats (3-7) was Tony Smith with 15 points. Kyler Ladehoff also reached double figures with 11 points. Sam Weatherman scored six points.

The team will next play at Lenihan on Friday against Johnston.

Iowa Golf Association to hold seminars

WAUKEE – The Iowa Golf Association is once again hosting seminars educating individuals on the rules of golf this spring.

Three seminars have been scheduled around the state. High school coaches and golfers are encouraged to attend these free events.

The three dates for the seminars are March 22, at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny on March 29, at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion and April 5, at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.

Deadline to sign up is the Wednesday prior to each seminar. Each person will receive a new 2012-15 Rules of Golf book.

Each seminar will begin at 9 a.m. and end around noon and the events are open to anyone wanting to learn more about golf.
