PREP HOOPS: Spartan basketball posts sweep of Valley Lutheran

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center girls’ and boys’ basketball teams sent their respective Valley Lutheran opponents to their 11th losses of the season on Thursday with a non-conference sweep of the visiting Crusaders.

The Grundy Center girls (6-6) routed winless Valley Lutheran, 81-7, behind four double-digit scorers. Katie Lindeman led the Spartans with 17 points, Stephanie Faust added 13 points, Kayla Mathews tallied 12 points, eight steals and four assists, while Madison Beenken had 10 points, seven steals and five assists.

Ardis White led the Crusaders (0-11) with five points.

On the boys’ side, Lane Bangasser scored a season-high 15 points as a part of the Spartans’ 79-37 triumph.

Jordan Stoner added 12 points while Austin Burroughs and Jack Stumberg had 11 points apiece.

Nick Saak and Brady Hook chipped in eight points apiece for the Spartans (4-8), who ended a six-game skid.

Isaiah Almbrecht notched 14 points to pace Valley Lutheran (1-11), which lost its eighth in a row.

Grundy Center hosts BCLUW tonight in NICL West Division play, and the Spartans go to East Marshall Saturday for a make-up doubleheader in Le Grand.
