Shockers rough up Drake
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State sped to a 14-0 lead and left the Drake women’s basketball team in its wake, whipping the Bulldogs 88-55 in Monday afternoon’s Missouri Valley Conference contest.
The host Shockers remained unbeaten in MVC play by holding Drake scoreless for the first 6:28 of the game. The Bulldogs (7-10, 1-5) had six turnovers during their drought and didn’t score until Kyndal Clark’s 3-pointer with 13:32 left in the opening half.
Drake trailed 49-22 at the break and never threatened.
Freshmen Caitlin Ingle and Lizzy Wendell led the Bulldogs with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Clark was limited to nine points despite playing a game-high 35 minutes.
Alex Harden had 21 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals to lead Wichita State (14-2, 5-0). Allie Decker netted 17 points off the bench, Michaela Dapprich added 15 points and Jamillah Bonner had 13 for the Shockers.
Wichita State turned Drake’s 22 turnovers into 35 points in the lopsided league win.
The Bulldogs are back at home on Friday night, entertaining MVC newcomer Loyola in a 7:05 p.m. game at the Knapp Center in Des Moines. Drake hosts Bradley at 2:05 p.m. Sunday in its Alumni Game.
