Community carnival coming Sunday at Roundhouse

A carnival geared toward elementary students is set to fill the Marshalltown High School Roundhouse with fun Sunday.

The Hoglan Elementary community carnival will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m., featuring games, inflatables, prizes and other activities. The event is organized by Hoglan staff and parents of students at the school.

The Roundhouse renovation project will receive 25 percent of the proceeds with Hoglan school getting the rest of the proceeds.

“We wanted to try to come up with an idea to support the Roundhouse,” said Amy Pollard, kindergarten teacher at Hoglan and one of the organizers of the event. “We decided to make it a community-wide event.

Another aspect of the event will be a silent auction and raffle with items such as a Tyler Sash autographed mini helmet, Taylor Swift bag, hotel stays, artwork and other donations from area businesses.

Pollard said this is based on the carnival they hold annually at Hoglan, but now it’s on a bigger scale.

“Usually we have our own carnival at Hoglan for our students,” Pollard said. “It’s a brand new idea to open it up to the community.”

Admission is $5 for children, while accompanying adults are free. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5.

The event is open to all elementary students, no matter what school district they attend.

“We are hoping for a lot of people to come out,” Pollard said.
