Panthers hit nine treys, score third straight win

CEDAR FALLS – Stephanie Davison scored 19 points and Jen Keitel added a double-double as the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team buried nine 3-pointers in a 70-59 win over new Missouri Valley Conference rival Loyola Sunday in front of 2,527 fans at the McLeod Center.

The Panthers hit all nine of their free throws and got 16 points from their bench as they never trailed while improving to 6-2 in league play.

Davison added four rebounds to her 19 points, while Keitel’s third double-double of the season included 14 points and a team-best 10 boards and she also dished out a team-high four assists.

Amber Sorenson chipped in eight points off the bench, while Hannah Schonhardt, Brooke Brown and Brittni Donaldson all scored seven in the win. Schonhardt also grabbed eight rebounds.

Northern Iowa (10-9, 6-2) never faced a deficit but couldn’t put Loyola away until the Panthers went up 15 points with 3:27 to play and the Ramblers couldn’t overcome the deficit and UNI secured its third straight victory.

Keitel got into double-digits by halftime and reached double-figures for the third game in a row. She was 6-of-8 from the floor in the win. Donaldson scored at least 10 points for the 10th time this season and Donaldson now has hit at least one 3-pointer in 10 straight games.

The Ramblers (8-11, 4-3) were led by Troy Hambric’s 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Molly Crosby scored eight points and had six boards. Loyola made just 39 percent of its shots from the floor but was 14-of-16 from the line.

The Panthers will have a full week off before hosting in-state rival Drake at the McLeod Center at 2 p.m. Sunday.
