MHS matmen come up short against rated rival

MASON CITY – The Bobcat grapplers managed just four wins against Class 3A 14th-ranked Mason City on Tuesday night as the Mohawks handed Marshalltown a 47-15 loss on their home turf.

Doston Harrelson’s win by fall in the third period at 113 pounds was the highlight of the night for Marshalltown, which also got wins by decision from Justus Bjelland at 195, Reese Hageman at 126 and Josh Edel at 160.

Class 3A No. 10 Derek Mann lost 6-2 to Andrew Bartel at 170 pounds. Bartel is ranked No. 4 at 160.

The Mohawks claimed five pins and a technical fall in the win. One of the pins came from top-ranked Kaz Onoo at 132 and another was recorded by second-ranked Tom Schiffer at heavyweight.

The Bobcats will see Mason City again Friday when both squads take part in the Central Iowa Conference Invitational at Southeast Polk. Action begins at 3:30 p.m.
