Bobcat girls sweep Valley, Waukee in CIC bowling

WAUKEE – Four 300-plus series guided the Marshalltown girls bowling team to a sweep of West Des Moines Valley and Waukee at the Warrior Lanes on Tuesday night.

Sam Tocheri led a host of Bobcats with a 331 series as Marshalltown rolled a 2,201, which was good enough to beat Valley (2,133) by 68 pins and take down Waukee (2,197) by four.

Jenna Vergauwen rolled a 324 for the Bobcats, who also got a 313 from both Tia Vergauwen and Kathleen Ferrin in the win. Ferrin also rolled a 152 to lead the way in the Baker games.

The Marshalltown boys’ bowling team also fared well against its CIC rivals but came away with a split, losing to Waukee and defeating Valley.

The Bobcats scored a 2,817 and were led by Brandon Freese’s match-high 442 series. Waukee won the day with a 2,946, while Valley rolled a 2,749.

Floyd Speck’s 374 series was good for second on the team, while Calvin Halverson’s 363 and Brett Wax’s 347 also led the Bobcats.

Marshalltown will next head to Mason City on Thursday for a Central Iowa Conference Northern Division matchup with the rival Mohawks. Action begins at 3:45 p.m.
