William Diedrichsen, 92

Funeral services for William “Bill” Edward Diedrichsen, 92, of Tipton who died Sunday, February 2, 2014 will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 10:30 am at the First United Church of Christ, Tipton, Rev. David Lorenzen will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM, Friday February 7, 2014 at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery, Tipton. Bill was born January 15, 1922 in Tama County, Iowa. He was the son of Edward Theodore and Agnes Anna Michelsen Diedrichsen. Bill received his BA degree with majors in math and science from the University of Northern Iowa in 1951 and later his MA degree in school administration, with a minor in zoology, and a Specialist Degree in School Administration from the University of Iowa. On August 1, 1948 Bill was united in marriage to Margaret Jean Ramer in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Bill served in the Army Air Force during WWII where he was a combat crew member on a B-29 Bomber. He was an elder of the First United Church of Christ, a 50 year plus member of the Lions Club, Walt Whitman Club for School Administrators, Tipton Golf and Country Club, Iowa State Education Association and served as past president of the Iowa Association of School Administrators.

He was a teacher, principal and retired as the Tipton Community School Superintendent in 1993 after 42 years with the Tipton School District. Upon retirement, Bill said, “A good school system, staffed by good people, with a good board of education and a long range plan for the future makes leaving easier.”

Bill is loved and survived by his wife, Margaret Diedrichsen of Tipton, Iowa; daughter, Ann Diedrichsen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and sons, Michael (Carol) Diedrichsen of Chatham, Illinois and Steven Diedrichsen (Ellen) of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ray, Harvey, and Clarence; and sisters, Luella and Rosa.
