Bulldog women shoot down Southern Illinois
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Kyndal Clark led a red-hot shooting effort with 29 points as the Drake women’s basketball team dispatched Southern Illinois 80-55 in Missouri Valley Conference action at SIU Arena Saturday.
Clark finished 7-of-12 from beyond the arc and the Bulldogs (11-11, 5-6) finished 10-of-24 from deep and shot 48 percent from the field to claim their fourth straight win.
Lizzy Wendell added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists as Drake dished out 19 dimes and forced 18 turnovers.
Drake led 40-35 early in the second half before breaking away with a 14-3 burst to stretch the margin to 54-38. Caitlin Ingle added 14 points, Emma Donahue had 8 and Alyssa Marschner had seven points and seven assists. The Bulldogs outscored Southern Illinois 38-20 in the paint and never trailed, while holding the Salukis to 34 percent shooting.
Jordyn Courier paced Southern Illinois (4-18, 2-9) with 13 points and Hanna Shores tallied 11.
Drake returns home Friday to host Wichita State. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
Evansville 59, UNI 50
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Four starters finished in double-figures but the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a cold streak in the first half in a 59-50 loss to Evansville at the Ford Center Saturday.
The Panthers (11-11, 7-4) went scoreless through the final three minutes of the opening frame to fall behind 24-15 at the break and played catch-up the rest of the game.
Hannah Schonhardt, Brooke Brown, Stephanie Davison and Jen Keitel each scored 11 points as UNI had an early lead before falling behind by as many as 17 late in the second half.
The Panthers return to the McLeod Center Friday to entertain Missouri State.
