Gregory Daniel Russell, of St. Paul, Minn., made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-first offense charge. He will represent himself in this case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 4. Russell was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today’s date.

Shane Matthew Manske, of St. Paul, Minn., made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Manske will represent himself in this case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 4. Manske was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today’s date.

Eric Ramone Lasley, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a probation revocation request. The court appointed Chad Frese as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is set for 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 24. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

Jason Fingers, 303 S. Fourth Ave. Apt. #4, made an initial appearance on a request for probation revocation. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The probation revocation hearing is set at 10 a.m. on March 7. Fingers was released on his own recognizance with the understanding that his probation terms are still in affect.

Incidents

On Tuesday, an employee with Perkins, 3012 S. Center St., reported the theft of cash from a steel coin vending machine. Estimated value of loss was $283.

On Tuesday, a 15-year-old male from Marshalltown reported the theft of an Adidas sweater, an Apple iPod and cash from a locker at Marshalltown High School, 1602 S. Second Ave. Estimated value of loss was $330.

On Tuesday, an employee with Hy-Vee Gas Station, 802 S. Center St., reported the theft of $200 during a change scam.

Arrests

On Tuesday, William K. Anderson, of Walker, Ky., was arrested for going armed with intent, harassment-first degree and spitting in a police vehicle.

On Tuesday, Lewis Delbert Randolph, 1703 Edgebrook Drive Apt. G4, was arrested for harassment-second degree.

On Tuesday, Samantha Lea Marie Randolph, 1703 Edgebrook Drive Apt. G4, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense.

On Tuesday, Eduardo Contreras, 10 N. Fourth St., was arrested for driving while barred.

Accidents

On Wednesday, a vehicle driven by Theresa Kparyea, 509 N. 14th Ave., was exiting a private driveway onto North 14th Avenue when it struck a legally parked pickup on the opposite side of the street. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,000 each.

On Wednesday, a car driven by Dawn Brooke was traveling northbound through the alley west of the City of Marshalltown parking lot and attempted to turn east into the east-west alleyway when the driver spotted a pickup driven by Bennett Wade Kenner, 208 N. 11th Street, traveling west through the alley. Both vehicles attempted to stop, but began to slide on the snow-covered surface and collided. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Brook car was estimated at $2,000.

On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Russell Dean Butters, 215 Young St., was eastbound in the 500 block of May Street when it collided with a pickup driven by Timothy Todd Teff, of Des Moines, which was backing into a private driveway. No injuries were reported. Butters was cited for failure to stop within an assured, clear distance. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.

On Sunday, a car driven by Oscar Yepez, 511 Roberts Terrace, was southbound on North Third Avenue at the intersection with East State Street when it went through the flashing red signal and collided with a car driven by Sha Htoo, of Des Moines, which was in the middle of the intersection. No injuries were reported. Yepez was cited for failure to obey a red flashing stop signal and no insurance. Damage to the Yepez car was estimated at $7,000 while the Htoo car received an estimated $7,500 in damage.

On Sunday, a minivan driven by Michael Cooper Hutchison, 1701 S. Third St., was southbound on South Center Street when it attempted to stop for traffic and started sliding and collided with the rear of a car driven by Tyler Wade Johnson, 1937 Underwood Ave., which was stopped for traffic. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Hutchison minivan was estimated at $2,000 while the Johnson car received an estimated $900 in damage.
