Update: Investigation continues in house fire

The Marshalltown Fire Department continues to investigate a fire that destroyed a Marshalltown home.

Firefighters were called to 503 E. Boone St. at 11:15 p.m. Monday. Fire crews discovered heavy fire coming from the front door and window on the main floor and second story, according to Acting Fire Chief Scott Johnson.

Johnson declined to comment if the house was occupied at the time of the fire because the investigation is still underway.

The fire department and the Marshalltown Police Department remain on scene investigating the fire, Johnson said.

Firefighters battled the blaze for more than five hours, Johnson said.
