Cyclones pull away from resistant Longhorns 81-64

AMES – The Iowa State women’s basketball team used a 13-0 run to break free of the seventh and final tie with Texas, turning back the Longhorns 81-64 in a Big 12 Conference clash Saturday night at Hilton Coliseum.

Six players scored in double-digits for the Cyclones (18-8, 7-8), who trailed by as many as seven points in the early stages of this one.

Imani McGee-Stafford scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Longhorns (17-10, 8-7), who led 7-0 less than 3 minutes into the game.

Hallie Christofferson led ISU with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Brynn Williamson tallied 15 points, Nikki Moody had 13 points and eight assists, while Jadda Buckley, Seanna Johnson and Nicole Blaskowsky netted 11 points apiece.

The Cyclones turned 23 Texas turnovers into 23 points and shot 30-of-35 from the free-throw line heading into Wednesday’s conference game at Oklahoma State.
