Five arrested for multiple burglaries
Five people have been charged in a string of local burglaries after a month-long police investigation.
Joeseph M. Witte, 26, was arrested Jan. 22, for allegedly breaking in the office of the Sundance Apartments, 1401 S. Seventh Ave., taking the master keys, a check reader and a small stereo.
Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department said after Witte was stopped for a traffic violation, officers found individual rent checks made out to the Sundance Apartments and construction tools in his car.
Witte’s arrest led to further investigation and more suspects were identified as more burglaries were discovered, Hanken said.
Detectives with the Marshalltown Police Department and the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force executed a search warrant Jan. 22 and recovered stolen items from the apartments, North Fourth Avenue Rentals, a local storage unit and Kinnetz Construction, an Iowa Falls business, were found.
Courtney M. Kinnetz, 27, and Lisa M. Nauman, 33, both of Marshalltown were arrested Feb. 17 and charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony.
Christopher A. Peak, 23, of Grinnell, was arrested Tuesday and is charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony and two counts of fifth-degree theft.
Shelby L. Peak, 22, of Grinnell, was arrested Tuesday and is charged with fifth-degree theft.
“They all knew each other and they were all in it together,” Hanken said.
Witte is being held in the Marshall County Jail. The others were released pending court appearances.
