Report: Hawkeye QB Sokol plans to transfer to another institution

IOWA?CITY – Cody Sokol was involved in a three-horse race for the starting quarterback position at Iowa when camp began last fall in Iowa City.

But after losing out to two younger competitors, the junior college transfer is apparently headed elsewhere.

According to hawkeyereport.com, Sokol is looking to transfer to another institution. He will have one year left of eligibility.

Sokol, who was born in Des Moines, signed with Iowa after playing his first two collegiate seasons at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona. He has indicated he would visit Louisiana Tech and Ball State.

Iowa media relations director Steve Roe said that Iowa is still finalizing the spring roster, and he has not been informed of any change involving Sokol.

After redshirting in 2012, Sokol did not see any action for the Hawkeyes in 2013.

Sophomore Jake Rudock emerged as the starter, and redshirt freshman C.J. Beathard was his backup.

Iowa went 8-5 last season and lost to LSU?in the Outback Bowl.
