Aimee Deimerly-Snyder

Resides: Marshalltown

Hometown: I was born in Sedalia, Mo., but raised in Marshalltown.

Family: I have a great group of guys in my life. My husband Tom works at Lennox, and helps with our family business, Lillie Mae Chocolates (which we manage out of our home). We have three great boys – T.J., 14, Spencer, 10 and Carson, 7. I am lucky to have my mom and brother, as well as my husband’s family, living in Marshalltown.

Pet: Dallas – a giant Goldendoddle.

Hobbies and interests: I am an avid reader and a big sports fan (which is a good thing with three active boys). I am always up for hanging out with family and friends.

Occupation: I am the volunteer service coordinator at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

What that means: One key responsibility is finding volunteers to help our residents with activities that enhance their lives. And we are currently seeking volunteers to serve in escort, gift shop, and in one-on-one capacities. Additionally, I manage donations and plan a couple of resident/volunteer activities a month. We have been so fortunate to have so much support from the Marshalltown community. However, we are always looking for more help – please call me at 641-753-4406 if you have ever thought of volunteering. We could really use you!

Tenure: One year.

Best part of job: I am blessed to have the opportunity to work at IVH. The residents are so appreciative, the volunteers are wonderful people, and I have great coworkers. Plus, the campus is a gorgeous place.

If I could change jobs: I wouldn’t change jobs, but in addition to my IVH position, I own Lillie Mae Chocolates. We take orders on Facebook or people can reach me on my cell phone after 5 p.m., 641-751-8581. I am lucky – I get to make people happy at both jobs!

Books: Fiction – “Game of Thrones” series/ Non-Fiction: “Eat, Move, Sleep.”

Movie: “Clear and Present Danger.”

Food: Blackened salmon

Sports: Iowa State University Cyclones!

Best part of living here: The best part of Marshalltown is the people and the community support. I love Marshalltown, and am very proud of the hard work many have invested to make this community great! It has been fantastic to see the changes in the last 15-20 years – the new construction and remodeling projects are impressive!

Most influential people: My parents have influenced my work ethic, my drive, and my quest to have fun!

Local involvement: We are members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, and I try to help on various community projects. Most recently, I have served as a 13th Street committee member, by watering new plants in the area and with other tasks.

Advice on life: My advice to my kids is that you are only in control of yourselves. You can choose your mood and your attitude – if you’re in a bad mood it is because you are choosing to be. You can just as easily choose to be happy. As Zig Ziglar said, “It’s not what happens to you that matters, it’s how you respond to what happens to you that makes a difference.”
