Former Bobcat gets first collegiate win
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former Marshalltown High School standout and Marshalltown Community College pitcher Jake Whaley picked up his first collegiate victory Sunday when he came on relief for the Kansas State baseball team.
Whaley allowed one hit and struck out two in his 1 1/3 innings to help the Wildcats (7-7) complete a big comeback against the Iowa Hawkeyes (9-4).
The right-hander entered the game in the seventh with two outs and a runner standing on third, but he induced a fly out to right field to end the frame.
Iowa led until the seventh inning when Kansas State, the defending Big 12 champions, scored 10 runs over its final three innings to win 12-8 and sweep the three-game weekend series at Tointon Family Stadium.
