Monday

Larry Kunc, 519 N. Third St. Apt. #18, made an initial appearance on a child endangerment causing bodily injury charge and a serious assault causing bodily injury charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 28. Kunc was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he be photographed and fingerprinted at the Marshalltown Police Department by 4 p.m. Monday. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Justin Dean Klaas, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court as its docket permits. Klaas was released on his own recognizance with the admonition that he is still on probation and must adhere to all the regulations set forth in said probation.

Patricia De La Torre Marquez, 676 Arlington Road, made an initial appearance through an Spanish interpreter on a theft-fifth degree charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning April 7 until the debt is paid in full. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has an immigration hold on De La Torre Marquez.

Michelle Grommet, 611 E. South St. Apt. E12, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle her case. The probation revocation hearing is set for 2:30 p.m. on March 31. Grommet was released on her own recognizance with the stipulation that she is still on probation and must continue to comply with the regulations set for in said probation.

Kody Hall, of Montour, made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule I controlled substance charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He will represent himself before the court. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 28. Hall was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered Hall to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today’s date.

Adam Garrett, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $320, due within 30 days of today’s date.

Mary Lou Daniel, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on April 15 in Magistrate Court.

Jesse James Earhart, 1401 S. 17th Ave., made an initial appearance on a violation of the sex offender registry charge, an escape charge and a violation of parole charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle the sex offender registry and escape charges. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 17. Bond on the sex offender registry charge is $2,000 cash or surety and bond on the escape charge is $5,000 cash only.

Alex Grasso was appointed as counsel for the violation of parole charge. The initial hearing will be scheduled by the court.

Nathaniel Scheppler, 111 W. Grant St., made an initial appearance on a probation revocation request. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The probation revocation hearing is set for 9 a.m. on April 7. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

Incidents

On Friday, Maria Sanchez-Sanchez, 1108 Jackson St., reported damage to a front door window at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $200.

On Thursday, an employee with K-Mart, 1720 S. Center St., reported the theft of clothing in the amount of $137.

Citations

On Thursday, a 16-year-old female from Marshalltown was cited for theft-fifth degree from Walmart.

On Thursday, Marissa Ashley Flohrs, 105 S. Seventh St., was cited for theft-fifth degree from Walmart.

Arrests

On Sunday, Eron Yonathan Ramirez Hernandez, 114 W. Meadow Lane, was arrested for public intoxication and interference with official acts.

On Sunday, Fernel Palanco, 3202 S. 12th St. Lot #192, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense.

On Friday, Trenton Dean Geiken, 310 Innes Blvd., was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense.

On Friday, Matthew Michael Blink, 908 S. Second Ave. (Half), was arrested for driving while barred.

On Thursday, Justin Alan Hartwig, 409 May St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-meth-second offense.

On Thursday, Matthew Daniel Puig, 702 Roberts Terrace, was arrested for driving while revoked.

On Thursday, Horacio Moreno-Magana, 707 E. State St., was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I narcotics-marijuana.

Accidents

On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, 611 E. South St. Apt. C12, was exiting a private driveway at 807 E. Anson St., when it collided with a legally parked vehicle across the street. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,500 each.

On Saturday, a pickup driven by Steven Craig Kent, 305 S. 15th Ave., was exiting a residential driveway when it collided with the side of a pickup driven by Hector Eduardo Mora Caballero, of Storm Lake, which was traveling south in the 300 block of North Seventh Avenue. No injuries were reported. Kent was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to both pickup was estimated at $1,500 each.

On Thursday, a car driven by Amanda Michelle Warren, of Garwin, was exiting a parking spot at Kwik Star on East Anson Street when it collided with a pickup driven by a 16-year-old male from Marshalltown which was pulling into a parking spot. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Warren car was estimated at $500 while the Schossow pickup received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

Sunday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a hazardous condition at 916 E. Main St., a good intent call to 1701 S. Seventh Ave., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 8 W. Webster St., 606 E. Linn St., and 603 E. Main St.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an unauthorized burning at 803 E. Linn St., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 705 Iowa Ave. West, 2204 Edgebrook Drive, 2607 S. Sixth St., 106 S. Sixth Ave., and 610 W. State St.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to 13 medical assists with the EMS crew to: 512 S. Sixth St., 211 Huisman Circle, 1200 E. Olive St., 402 N. 10th Ave., 406 Summit St., 1109 Jackson St., 2802 S. Center St., 910 E. Anson St., 915 W. Merle Hibbs Blvd., 809 W. Main St., 101 NewCastle Road, 9 N. Center St., and 1511 S. Fifth St.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a building fire at 610 W. Nevada St., a carbon monoxide incident at 105 S. Eighth Ave., a smoke detector activation due to malfunction at 1602 S. Second Ave., and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 109 N. 22nd St., and 506 E. Anson St.
