MCC’s Howe named all-region 2nd team

Putting together its best record since 2010-11, the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team had three players receive all-Region XI Division II honors.

Freshman Jasmin Howe made the second team, while sophomores Ashley Salgado and Mackenzie Gott earned third-team nods following an 18-12 campaign.

Howe led the Tigers in head coach Steve Garber’s first season with 15.2 points per game, sixth-best in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. The Australian topped the league in free-throw shooting at 82.8 percent (72-of-87) and ranked second with a 39.4 3-point percentage – connecting on 61 triples.

The freshman scored at least 20 points seven times, including a career-best 32 against nationally ranked Iowa Central.

Gott earned her second straight all-Region selection after making the second team last year. She missed five games due to a knee injury and averaged 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest. The sophomore ranked third in the league in rebounds and fifth in field-goal percentage at 49.5 percent.

Salgado didn’t miss a game during the 2013-14 season, extending her consecutive starts streak to 58. She led the ICCAC with six assists per game.
