MCC win streak halted by Eastern Oklahoma State

BIXBY, Okla. – Playing just one of its three scheduled games because of rain, the Marshalltown softball team had its five-game win streak snapped Saturday.

The Tigers came into the game having outscored their opponents 53-3 during the win streak but struggled to get the bats moving as MCC fell 3-0 to Eastern Oklahoma State College at the Midwest Classic.

Sophomore Sarah Wilson pitched all seven innings in the circle, scattering seven hits and striking out five, but the MCC bats struck out six times in the first two innings and Eastern Oklahoma’s run in the top of the fourth wound up being up the winning tally.

The Tigers had the bases loaded in their half of the fourth but could not score and then had just one base runner the rest of the way.

Wilson, Mackenzie Gott and Shaiann Treu had the three Tiger hits. Gott also walked, but the Tigers struck out 13 times at the dish. Wilson also allowed two walks in the circle and all three runs against her were earned.

If the weather allows, MCC will resume play today at the Midwest Classic with its regularly scheduled games. Action begins at 11 a.m. against Southeast Community College.
