North Tama’s Watson runs away from field in 3,000

PELLA – Breaking away for a commanding victory in the 3,000 meters, North Tama’s Abi Watson highlighted a strong outing for several area teams at the Central College Indoor Invite Saturday.

Watson hit the tape in 11 minutes, 30.90 seconds more than five seconds ahead of the runner-up, while East Marshall’s Haley Fye finished third in 11:37.63.

Watson (5:26.84) and Fye (5:28.83) also tallied top-15 finishes in the 1,500, placing 12th and 14th respectively.

The Redhawks’ Josie Youel tied for eighth in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 6 inches and Colo-NESCO’s Angela Brinkman shared ninth in the high jump surpassing the bar at 4 feet, 8 inches.

Fellow Royal Shayla Dean covered the 400 in 1:07.25 to grab 14th.

Ashley Allen tied for 15th in the shot put with a heave of 31 feet, 2 inches, while the Mustangs had a trio of top-11 relays. Theresa Hatch, Brooke Miller, Fye and Kelsea Anderson garnered eighth in the 4×400 clocking 4:38.60. Hatch, Meriel Leavy, Shae Fetters and Anderson finished 11th in the 4×200 (2:00.01), while Bobbi Amendt, Miller, Maddie Hinegardner and Mariah Fritz followed suit in the 4×800 (11:02.24).

Reischauer leads Colo-NESCO boys

PELLA Christian Reischauer set the pace for the Colo-NESCO boys with a pair of top-8 finishes at the Central College Indoor Invite Saturday.

Reischauer tied for fifth in the 55-meter dash, hitting the line in 6.60 seconds, before claiming eighth in the 200 in a time of 24.61. Reischauer also anchored Colo-NESCO’s 11th-place 4×200 (1:41.03) with Taylor Hill, Noah Gibbons and Clayton Bryan, and also led off the 4×400 with Bryan, Gibbons and Brady Stoeffler to take 14th (3:59.94).

The Royals’ 4×800 contingent of Steven Cutler, Evan Webb, Bryan and Stoeffler wrapped up eighth in 9:49.00.
