Kerry Logan, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a felony domestic abuse assault charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 4. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. The court ordered that if he owned or possessed any firearms or ammunition, Logan is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to surrender them. A no-contact order is issued for the protected party.

Mark Shearer, of Albion, made an initial appearance on an assault with intent to commit sex abuse charge. the public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 15. Shearer was released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office by 4 p.m. today to sign a pre-trial release agreement. A no-contact order is issued for the protected party.

Kenneth Avery White Jr., address unknown, made an initial appearance through counsel, Alexander D. Smith, on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 15.

Letisha Garcia, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a failure to secure a child charge, a operation without registration charge and a driving under suspension charge. She pleaded guilty to all charges. On the failure to secure a child charge the fine is $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195. The fine on the operation without registration is $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50. On the driving under suspension charge the fine is $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. All payments are due within 30 days of today’s date.

Darvell Gamblin, address unknown, made an initial appearance on eight counts of a failure to obey a stop sign charge, two speeding charges, a passing too near a bridge, intersection or railroad crossing charge and a reckless driving charge. Jennie Wilson-Moore will act as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 31.

Larry Kunc, Homeless, made an initial appearance on a pre-trial violation charge and a probation violation charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 28 for the pre-trial violation charge. The probation revocation hearing is set at 3 p.m. on April 2 and a contempt hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on April 4. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety on the pre-trial violation and no bond was allowed on the probation violation.

Robert Slocum, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning April 5 or in lieu of the fine and surcharge he may do 46 hours of community service plus pay the court costs to be completed by Sept. 30.

Seth Michael Trickey, 3202 S. 12th St. Lot #165, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on April 29 in Magistrate Court.

Chantel Marie Kopel, 408 W. High St. Lot #4, made an initial appearance on a theft-fourth degree charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 15. Kopel was released on her own recognizance.

Jason Allan Darter, 3202 S. 12th St. Lot #125, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a probation revocation hearing. Barry Kaplan will continue as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is rescheduled for 3 p.m. on April 14. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

Incidents

On Monday, an employee with Hawkeye Car Credit, 401 S. 12th Ave., reported BB gunshot damage to the passenger side rear window and body on a Nissan Altima while parked on the business lot. Estimated value of damage was $300.

On Monday, Ben Graham, 524 N. First St. Apt. #2, reported the theft of a Schwinn Frontier bicycle from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $150.

On Wednesday, an employee at Hy-Vee, 802 S. Center St., reported the theft of groceries in the amount of $276.29.

On Tuesday, an employee with Menards, 504 W. Iowa Ave., reported the theft of a Bosch 11240 hammer drill and a Motorola baby monitor valued at $499.98.

On March 18, an employee at K-Mart, 1716 S. Center St., reported the theft of female cosmetic items and hair ties valued at $142.15.

Citations

On Monday, Nathan Thomas Lucas, 404 Woodbury St., was cited for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana with the intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana, incidents that happened on Nov. 11, 2013.

On Wednesday, Pedro Antonio Guadiana, 1505 S. Fourth St., was cited for driving while barred.

Arrests

On Wednesday, Kerry Brandon Logan, 408 W. High St. Lot #8, was arrested for felony domestic abuse assault-enhanced.

On Wednesday, Chantel Marie Kopel, 408 W. High St. Lot #4, was arrested for theft-fourth degree from Hy-Vee.

On Wednesday, Cassandra Lynn Holden, 309 W. Boone St., was arrested for possession of contraband-meth at the adult probation office.

On Tuesday, Tina Lareese Carson, 908 W. Nevada St., was arrested for child endangerment and public intoxication.

On Tuesday, Tyler James Sanders, 203 N. Ninth St., was arrested for harassment-third degree.

Accidents

On Wednesday, a car driven by Peggy Ann Kelly, 905 Benjamin Drive, was northbound on North Second Avenue looking for an address when it attempted to turn left into a private driveway and collided with a car driven by Peter Murphy, 606 N. Second Ave., which was attempting to pass the Kelly car. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Murphy car was estimated at $1,750 while the Kelly car received an estimated $1,700 in damage.

On Tuesday, a car driven by Natasha Skye Kelderman, 1103 Jackson St., was backing out of a private drive at 505 S. Fifth St., when it struck a legally parked car across the street. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Kelderman car was estimated at $1,200 while the legally parked car received an estimated $4,500 in damage.

Accidents

On Wednesday, a car driven by Justin Lee Smith, 908 E. Anson St., was southbound on Sanford Avenue when it hit an icy patch in the roadway, began swerving, crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle driven by Deborah Marie Mull, of Conrad, which was traveling north on Sanford Avenue sending it into the west ditch. No injuries were reported. Smith was cited for failure to maintain control and driving under suspension. Damage to the Smith car was estimated at $3,000 while the Mull vehicle received an estimated $4,500 in damage.
