MCC softball salvages third consecutive split
FORT DODGE – Sarah Wilson’s team-leading seventh home run of the season came in the form of a three-run shot, helping the Marshalltown Community College softball team salvage a third-straight doubleheader split in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play.
The Tigers, after falling 10-2 in five innings in Sunday’s first game against Iowa Central, rebounded to win the nightcap 14-6.
Wilson’s three-shot round-tripper provided what would eventually be the game-winning runs for MCC (14-9, 5-3), which is back in action with a twinbill today at DMACC starting at 3 p.m. in Boone.
Mackenzie Gott’s RBI double opened MCC’s four-run fourth inning against the Tritons (20-7, 2-2) in game two, and Wilson’s homer followed to make it an 8-2 Tiger advantage. Brianna James went the distance on the mound, getting 11 hits worth of support from the Marshalltown offense.
Lexie Biehl finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, giving her five hits on the day. The freshman from Maquoketa is nine for her last 13 with nine RBIs during that span.
Emmeline Huffaker, a Collins-Maxwell/Baxter graduate, was 1-for-1 with three walks and four runs scored.
Wilson took the loss in the opening game against Iowa Central, as the Tritons broke the scoreless tie with six runs in the third inning. MCC rapped out nine hits in the loss.
Gott went 3-for-3 with a run scored while Tacie Blunk was 2-for-2. Blunk and Milder both had run-scoring doubles in the fourth frame.
The Tigers are scheduled to play their home opener on Wednesday, hosting NJCAA Division II No. 7-ranked Kirkwood at 3 p.m.
