Sodders endorses Kajtazovic for U.S. House
State Sen. Steve Sodders, D-State Center, has announced his endorsement for Rep. Anesa Kajtazovic, D-Waterloo, for the U.S. House in the 1st District.
“After looking at all of the candidates, I think she’s the best one for the job,” Sodders said.
Sodders said Kajtazovic is a hard-working member of the Iowa House who would bring a fresh voice to Washington.
“We have a lot of old, white guys, quite frankly,” Sodders said.
Kajtazovic, 27, has served in the Iowa House since 2011, having first been elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2012.
She is a native of Bosnia and a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with degrees in business and public administration.
“I’m honored to have Steve’s support and he’s one of our northeast Iowa leaders,” Kajtazovic said. “To have his support it really means a lot to me.”
Kajtazovic said her campaign continues to focus on fostering more economic opportunities, better education, protecting Social Security and opportunities to earn a living wage
As far as her work in the Iowa House this session, she said she is working on expanding skilled workforce training. She also said she supports the reopening of the Iowa Juvenile Home, though House leadership has not been willing to take up the bill.
Kajtazovic agreed with Sodders in that she feels she would be a different member of Congress.
“We already have too many millionaires and career politicians (in Congress),” she said.
Sodders feels more support of Kajtazovic will be on its way from other state legislators.
“I think there will be more (endorsements) coming for Anesa,” Sodders said. “She’s the best candidate for the district.”
Sodders said he will speak for Kajtazovic when he can in the 20-county district and plans to tout her work in the Iowa House locally.
“Marshall County is a very important county (in the race),” Sodders said.
