U of I group ‘Dancers in Company’ to perform at Orpheum in April
The University of Iowa’s premiere touring repertory company, Dancing in Company, will be bringing its talents to Marshalltown this April. The dancing troupe will perform at the IVCCD Orpheum Theater Center at 7 p.m. April 11 in the Orpheum Black Box Theater, 220 E. Main St.
The concert will be a delightful mix of two contemporary ballets, one a look at the history of ballet by George de la Pena, the other a romantic duet performed by Ethan Rome and Crystal Gurrola, created by Eloy Barragan. The program will include three modern and post-modern works that range from the humorous to the sublime, created by University of Iowa faculty members Charlotte Adams, Armando Duarte and Jennifer Kayle. The work of guest artists Lisa Gonzales, Esther Baker-Tarpaga and Olivier Tarpaga will finish out the program. Gonzales’ piece is a quirky, heartfelt act for the entire company while Esther Baker-Tarpaga will partner with Olivier Tarpaga in creating an African-influenced dance.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free with the option of a free-will donation. Concessions will be available. Tickets can be reserved in advance by calling 641-844-5921 or by visiting the Orpheum Theater Welcome Center.
