Man strangles teenage boy

A State Center man faces a felony charge after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend’s 15-year-old son by the neck and impeded his breathing.

Jeff S. Nemeyer, 56, was arrested Thursday night, on the 300 block of First Avenue in State Center, after a family argument led to two assaults.

Jeff Bunn, State Center police chief, said Nemeyer was having an argument with his girlfriend and her son with whom he lived with when the assault occurred. He also shoved his girlfriend during the argument.

The paramedics treated and released the boy at the scene. The female victim was not injured.

Nemeyer is charged with domestic abuse assault strangulation, a Class D felony and simple domestic assault.

Sarah and James Downs, of Montour, are the parents of a daughter, Norma Lynn Downs, born at 7:10 p.m. on March 20 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center weighing 4 pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 17.75 inches in length. Welcoming Norma home are big sisters Aubryanna and Isabell Downs. Grandparents are David and Karman Downs, Judy Rysdam. She was named after her great grandma Norma and middle name from grandma Judy.

Christian and Kim Guenther, of Marshall, Minn., are the parents of a son, Cade Michael Guenther, born on March 13 at Avera Medical Center in Marshall. Welcoming Cade home are big brothers McCoy and Coby. Grandparents are Steve and Jane Fritz, of Marshalltown, and Mark and Mary Guenther, of Denver.

Jeff Scott Neymeyer, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a domestic abuse assault-strangulation charge and a simple domestic assault charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 23. Neymeyer was released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office to sign a pre-trial release agreement by 4 p.m. today. The court ordered that if he owned or possessed any firearms or ammunition, Neymeyer is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. A no-contact order has been issued for the protected parties.

Lamaer Joseph Mullen, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana-second offense charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 23. The court ordered a substance abuse evaluation with the results to be submitted within 60 days of today’s date.

Randle Christian Scott Hughley, of St. Anthony, made an initial appearance on a probation revocation request. Marshon Dubbert will continue as counsel. The probation revocation hearing is set for 11:15 a.m. on April 21. Bond will continue as posted pending further court proceedings.

Orlando Addrien Ray, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a sex offender registry violation-second or subsequent offense charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 23. Ray was released on his own recognizance.

Chan Kep, address unknown, made an initial appearance through a personal interpreter on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days of today’s date.

Jordan Scott Parker, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a seatbelt violation charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on May 20 in Magistrate Court.

Raymond O’Hara, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a providing false information charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today’s date.

On Monday, Justin Frank Joseph Hansen, of Blairstown, was arrested for simple domestic abuse assault.

On Tuesday, Matthew Scott Bodie, 809 N. Fourth St., was arrested for simple domestic abuse assault.

On Thursday, Aaron Lee Dolash, 903 N. Fourth Ave., was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, Jason Michael Burns, 609 E. Main St. Apt. #2, was arrested for aggravated assault, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance-meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, Debra Louise Patterson, 1312 Summit St., was arrested for disorderly conduct.

On Tuesday, Matthew Scott Bodie, 809 N. Fourth St., was arrested for simple domestic assault.

Accidents

On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Douglas Dale Selk, of Grinnell, was exiting a parking spot at the Marshalltown Community School District Administration building when it collided with a minivan which was parked in a spot designated for bus pick up at that time. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Selk pickup was estimated at $3,000 while the minivan received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

On Tuesday, a car driven by Samantha Ann Howell, of Albion, was northbound on South Center Street approaching Iowa Avenue in the left turn only lane when the driver decided not to turn and changed lanes to proceed forward colliding with the side of a vehicle driven by Burke Thomas Aschan, 609 W. Boone St., which was traveling north in the inside lane. No injuries were reported. Howell was cited for improper use of lanes. Damage to the Howell car was estimated at $4,000 while the Aschan vehicle received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Michael William Shipman, of Monroe, was southbound on South Center Street at Iowa Avenue stopped on a red light when it attempted a right on red turn and collided with a pickup driven by Ricky David Kofstad, of Tama, which was westbound on Iowa Avenue. No injuries were reported. Shipman was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Shipman pickup was estimated at $2,500 while the Kofstad pickup received an estimated $500 in damage.

On Monday, Samantha Lee Beadle, 1211 Marshall Drive, was cited for driving while barred.

On Thursday, Aaron Lee Dolash, 903 N. Fourth Ave. Apt., was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, Cruz Aubustine Garcia, 513 N. Second St., was cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age limit.

On Wednesday, Chance Wayne Kadner, 306 Plaza Heights Road Apt. #4, was cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age limit.
