Plaehn leads GMG to win in season opener
CONRAD – Chad Plaehn shot a 39 to take medalist honors and two other GMG golfers were in the top five of the Wolverines’ host quadrangular on Tuesday night at the Oakwood Golf Course.
Plaehn’s 39 was four-over par and bested Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s Garrett Huske by two strokes at the top of the leaderboard, while Bridger Claassen and Brandon Weitzell each carded a 47 to finish in a tie for fourth.
Luke Petty shot a 50 to round out the scoring for the Wolverines, who finished with a 183 in first place.
Don Bosco’s 198 was second, CMB ended up with a 209 and Colo-NESCO recorded a 223.
The two non-counting scores for the Wolverines were Austin Vaughn and Kenan Hall, who both carded a 51.
Austin Schmit of Don Bosco carded a 44 to take third individually and the Dons also got a sixth-place finish from Austin Carpenter, who shot a 49.
Colo-NESCO was led by Cole Ozbun and Isaiah Texeria.
Both Royal golfers finished with 50s and Tanner Clatt added a 61, while the final score was Adyn Bappe’s 62.
The GMG junior varsity turned in a 269 and were led by Noah Thurston’s 57.
Noah Winter added a 61, Conner Stonewall finished with a 69 and Matthew Lolwing shot an 82.
