MHS grad ties career wins mark

WATERLOO – Two-time Class 2A Iowa girls’ state tennis singles champion Krissy Lankelma of Marshalltown has moved into a tie for the school record for doubles victories at Northern Iowa after picking up a win on Saturday against Illinois State.

Lankelma, a 2010 Marshalltown High School graduate, improved to 21-12 this season after teaming with Sydney Wolfe for an 8-5 win over Sierra Stone and Carolina Abello in the No. 3 doubles position.

It was a part of the Panthers’ convincing 6-1 victory over the Redbirds, upping UNI’s season mark to 10-10 overall with its first Missouri Valley Conference win.

Lankelma now has 83 career doubles victories, matching the career mark held by a former teammate – Phoebe Walker. Walker tallied 83 wins from 2009-13.

Lankelma is a senior biology major who has also accumulated a 73-56 singles record to this point in her collegiate career. The former Bobcat went 23-9 in doubles play as a Panther freshman, 17-15 as a sophomore and 22-10 last season.

Northern Iowa is back at the Black Hawk Tennis Club today in Waterloo, hosting Bradley in an MVC dual.
