ISU’s Christofferson inked by Phoenix

AMES – Not long after the conclusion of the WNBA Draft, Iowa State senior Hallie Christofferson struck a deal with the Phoenix Mercury.

Christofferson, undrafted in the three-round WNBA event Monday night, will sign a free agent contract with Phoenix. Her agent, Jeanne McNulty-King of 2X inc., was the first to announce the invitation via Twitter.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to continue playing basketball,” Christofferson said. “I am looking forward to what Phoenix has in store for me as I head to draft camp.”

The Hamlin native was a two-time Associated Press honorable mention selection and a two-time first-team all-Big 12 pick. Christofferson led Iowa State for the second year in a row with a scoring average of 18.4 points per game.

“This is a great opportunity for Hallie,” Cyclones coach Bill Fennelly said. “Phoenix was excited to bring her to camp, and I am sure they will find out quickly how special Hallie is on and off the court.”
