Roughriders blank MHS girls soccer

DES MOINES – A sluggish start left the Bobcats too far behind as the Marshalltown girls’ soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Des Moines Roosevelt Friday at James Cownie Soccer Complex.

Amanda Hughes made four saves in goal as the Bobcats dropped to 1-2 on the season. The Roughriders improved to 2-2.

“We started slow and Roosevelt was able to capitalize on that,” MHS coach Allie Osmundson said. “There is a lot we can take away from this game that we will need to work on in practice Monday. … I look forward to seeing how we respond.”

Alexis Schneider and Stephanie Ruiz each scored for the MHS junior varsity in a 3-2 loss, while the Bobcat freshman were blanked 4-0.

The Bobcats start a three-game homestand against Des Moines East on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Leonard Cole Field. MHS battles Class 2A No. 12-ranked Newton on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. and South Tama County/East Marshall Friday at 7:30 p.m.
